Projects are listed below. Please note that every project has plenty of accompanying leeway for experimental outcomes. Or in other words, read through the projects with an idea of where your initiative, obsessions, talents, and playfulness might be best expressed.
IN THE GARDEN
1. Nature Conservancy at oyster (continuation)
The Nature Conservancy is creating an interpretive trail along a portion of the undeveloped shoreline in the seaside village of Oyster, VA on the Eastern Shore where the public can take in views of protected oyster sanctuaries, salt marsh, and Mockhorn and Cobb Islands--two of the chain of barrier islands visible from this location.
The trail proposal includes signage that highlights TNC’s work and other conservation activities in the area. TNC’s seagrass and scallop restoration facility is also based in Oyster, as a living shoreline demonstration project to show how nature can help protect coastal shorelines from erosion. Interpretive signs designed at mOb last semester will be placed along the trail, trailhead, and around the Oyster harbor to highlight the trail, the TNC restoration facility, and living shoreline.
This semester’s team will add to the design work completed last semester by focusing on the larger signs that will be placed around the village – at the marine restoration facility, living shoreline, and over by the boat ramps. They love the signs for the trail designed the mOb fall 2018 student team. A certain amount of cohesiveness between the designs is required, particularly with the large sign/kiosk at the trailhead and the larger signs around town. This project team will seek design solutions that convey TNC’s mission, information about the trail, and themes of people/nature and conservation.
